How do I make a reservation?
We accept reservations up to 6 months in advance. Reservations can be made via the following methods:

What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellation of any reservation made with THE MACHIYA KAZAHAYA may be subject to a cancellation fee:

*Guests will be responsible for any transaction fees involved in the receiving and returning of payment
How can I make the payment?
We ask for full accommodation payment upon check-in.
Payment can be made via cash or credit card.

All payments will be charged in Japanese Yen.
May I make a reservation on behalf of another guest?
Yes. When making your reservation, please let us know the name of the guest who will be staying at THE MACHIYA KAZAHAYA, as well as the guests' contact number and email address.

If someone other than the guest checking in will be making the payment, please ensure that they are aware of all reservation and payment details.
Does the rate include tax and service charge?
Yes. All rates shown on our webpage include 10% consumption tax (incl. sales tax, VAT, excise duty, etc.) and service fees.

In Kyoto City, a new accommodation tax will be implemented starting October 1, 2018
(京都市自 2018年10月1日起开始征收住宿税)

Accordingly, we will charge a separate accommodation tax based on you accommodation fee as determined by the Kyoto City government. Please visit the link below for more information and details.

Is there an elevator?
There is no elevator; the 2F is accessible by stairs.
However, there are 2 rooms (KAZE Deluxe Room, THE KAZAHAYA Garden Suite) located on ground floor that offer step-free access.

Is the Hotel suitable for the elderly?
There are no age restrictions for guests staying at THE MACHIYA KAZAHAYA.

We offer 6 rooms, with 2 rooms (KAZE Deluxe Room, THE KAZAHAYA Garden Suite) located on the ground floor. However, please note that the other 4 rooms are located on the 2F only accessible by stairs.

Is the Hotel suitable for children?
Yes. There are no age restrictions for guests staying with THE MACHIYA KAZAHAYA.

Children 5 years of age and under may share a bed with another adult with no additional charge. In this case, please process the guest as "0" when making your reservation. (Up to 2 children, 5 years of age and younger, may stay free of charge.)

Please be aware that we may not be able to make room adjustments for child-proofing.
Can we have more than the maximum number of guests in one room?
Unfortunately, due to the Japanese Fire Service Act issued by the Kyoto City government, we are unable to accept more than the maximum number of guests indicated under each room.
Can I change the number of guests after making a reservation?
Yes. You may change the number of guests up to 2 days prior to your check-in date.

Your Stay

How can I check-in?
You may check in at our front desk any time between 9:00AM~9:00PM. If you will be arriving in Kyoto after 9:00PM, please inform our staff in advance, and we will provide you with late check-in instructions.

Details regarding check-in procedures, will be provided in your confirmation email.
Can I leave my luggage somewhere before check in?
You may leave your luggage at front desk (free of charge) anytime between 9:00AM~9:00PM.

We also offer free luggage storage at our MACHIYA INNS & HOTELS check-in office (3-min. walk from Kyoto Station), and a luggage delivery service to and from the “MACHIYA INNS & HOTELS” Office to THE MACHIYA KAZAHAYA Hotel.

What time is check in/check out?
Room Check-in: 15:00 ~
Room Check-out: ~10:00

Our front desk is available from 9:00AM should you plan to arrive in Kyoto early. We offer free luggage storage before and after your check-out time.
What time is the front desk open?
Our front desk is open between 9:00AM ~ 9:00PM.

In addition, between 9:00PM-9:00AM, your in-room telephone will connect to our staff at our emergency contact number.
Can I check in late?
Yes. We accept late check-ins.

We ask that you please kindly contact our staff prior to your arrival if you will be checking in after 9:00PM, and our staff will provide you with instructions on how to enter the property and your room after 19:00.

Are Yukata (Japanese sleepwear) provided?
Yes. We have will prepare one yukata per guest.
How many children can stay without any charge?
We allow up to two (2) children, 5 years of age and under, to stay for free (when sharing a bed with an adult).
Do you offer breakfast?
We offer optional ‘MACHIYA Breakfast Bento’ delivery that is prepared fresh daily in our central kitchen.

Can we bring pets?
We do not allow pets inside our hotel.
Do you offer rooms with kitchens?
Yes, our suites offer a private kitchen facilities for you during your stay.
We provide basic cooking utensils, cutlery, cups and plates, toaster, IH cooker, microwave, kettle, and more. Please take a look at each rooms page for more details and information:
What amenities are included?
For all rooms, towels, linen, bathroom amenities, and more are all included in your stay.For details on amenities, please check each individual room page.

We also provide each guest with complimentary coffee (MACHIYA Coffee Original Blend), tea (green tea and black tea), and water bottles.
Do you have any connecting rooms?
There are no connecting rooms. However, it is possible to reserve multiple rooms and suites that are close to each other, depending on availability.
Can we get in touch if we have any problems during our stay?
Yes. Our staff is available at the front desk between 9:00AM~9:00PM.

To contact our staff from your room: Pick up the telephone receiver located in your room, and press ‘9’.
After 21:00, your telephone will connect to our emergency number directly.

You may also contact our staff via email between 9:00~21:00.

Access/Car Parking

How can I access your hotel?
From Kyoto Station by Subway:Take the Kyoto City Subway (Karasuma Line) heading towards ‘Kokusaikaikan’ Station.
Get off at ‘Shijo Station’, and walk to THE MACHIYA KAZAHAYA for approximately 8-min.

How do I get to the house by taxi?
We will include Japanese instructions to show your taxi driver in your reservation confirmation e-mail and attached access map.
Do you have any car parking space?
Our hotel does not have a private car park.

However, there are several coin parking spaces located within walking distance.Please contact our staff for additional information and suggestions on where to park during your stay.

Important Information

Are there any restrictions on noise in the machiya house?
No parties or events are allowed inside the machiya hotel at any time.

As the hotel is located in a residential area, with many locals living within the neighborhood, we respectfully ask you to take care when talking in the hallway or outside the hotel (entrance).
Is smoking allowed at your hotel?
Our entire hotel is a non-smoking property.

We ask our guests to not smoke anywhere within the property, or near the entrance of the hotel. For designated smoking areas in Kyoto, please ask our front desk staff.
